(Blurb)  People engage in hobbies for a variety of reasons.  Included in these would be satisfaction and enjoyment and/or a desire to further their knowledge.

Growing succulent plants successfully presents many challenges and frustrations.  The challenges embrace growing plants as perfectly bus as typically as possible within artificial constraints of cultivation.  The frustrations are the failures.

Taxonomic exactitude can become an obsession for some, but applying "devised" compartments to nature's continuum is laden with problems.  As more knowledge becomes available, the focus of the overall picture becomes sharper but nebulous areas remain in close-up detail.

The decoding of specific names can be illuminating in providing an insight into the imagination (or lack of it) of the discoverer.

The decoding of descriptive terms allows a better understanding of the meaning of - and insight into - the language of botany.

Many books contain a glossary of botanical terms but they are seldom comprehensive, acting as an aid rather than a guide.

The purpose of this book is to assist in the understanding of the more commonly used terms and descriptions in botanical or horticultural publications on cacti and other succulents.
